Big Congrats to Darren R from Kananaskis AB who took top spot in his Age Group at the McDowell Mountain Xterra Trail Run in Arizona. Here’s his Race report:
Race was fun! At 2,000 ft elevation, makes running feel like a brisk walk! Haven’t been doing a bunch of running so I wasn’t terrible confident in myself. Race was harder than I expected; the pace was pretty quick out of the blocks. I just wanted to settle into a comfortable pace and enjoy the run.
After about 1.5km we started a long steady climb. I was feeling pretty good on the climb and felt I could try and push the climb a little. I picked up the pace and passed quite a few guys going up the hill. the rest of the race I just tried to keep it steady and strong. A couple of times I found myself dogging it a little and had to remind myself to push and turn the legs over.
I was super happy with the outcome as I finished 7th overall and 1st in my age category.
My buddies (Glen & John) had a fun time as well; they are not runners really but did phenomenally well and finished 57th and 68th out of 165ish. We swept the international podium with 1st, 2nd and 3rd:)
We all took turns proudly wearing the Mito Canada gear to spread the love. Fun day in the AZ sun followed by an outstanding Superbowl game and party!!!
