Society for Manitobans with Disabilities

Provides therapy programming for children under 7 (or prior to kindergarden) through the Provincial Outreach Therapy for Children (POTC) program (in home assesment, and therapy delivery, fully funded by the province once approved – requires referral). Speech, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy etc. Also provides services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing children – including a day program, in home ASL training, family support, etc.

School Therapy Services – Rehab Centre for Children

Operated out of the Rehab Centre for Children, School Therapy Services offers a wide variety of intake, and ongoing therapy services to children in the school setting. Therapies include Physio, OT, Speech, Vision therapy etc. They also offer home assesments, to aid the applications for funds for home modifications and equipment, as well as assesments and reports on modifications needed within the school to accomodate the child.

Ontario

Some of the Therapy Centres listed as resources on our site receive funding through Preschool and School-Age funding programs of the Government of Ontario (for example, ErinoakKids and the Niagara Children’s Centre under Government Funded Therapy).
Services provided are dependent on the policies of the particular funding program (for example, Preschool Programs are funded focused on child development, and School-Age programs are funded separately focused on assisting the child to learn in school.)
The CCAC (Community Care Access Centre) administers the funding for many services that support both children and adults.

Children’s Developmental Rehabilitation Program (CDRP)

Provides many services for Children & also Adults, such as SLP,OT, PT, T.A.C. (Technology Access Centre-for communication devices) Augmentative,.Orthotics & Prosthetics, Behavioral, Developmental Peds. Psychometric testing, PDD & Autism testing, social workers & many more CDRP is for children up to the age of 18, but adults are provided for there as well.

Provides assesments of children under 5 in regards to therapy needs, developmental progress, and aids in aquiring services for children at an early age. Provides referrals for Childrens Special Services, Provincial Outreach Therapy Services, and other government programs as appropriate.

ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development

ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development is the largest of the 19 Children’s Treatment Centres in Ontario – they help approximately 9,000 children and their families each year. The children face a range of physical and developmental disabilities. Some have communications challenges. Some have multiple and complex disabilities. ErinoakKids helps them overcome their challenges where they can, and cope with them no matter what.
ErinoakKids serves children in Mississauga, Burlington, Oakville and Brampton.

Niagara Children’s Centre

The Centre is recognized throughout the Niagara Region as the provider of rehabilitation services to children and teens with physical and communication disabilities and special needs. The staff is highly trained and caring and with the help of hundreds of volunteers provide rehabilitation therapies and other support services to over 3000 children and teens and their families.

Recreational Respite

Recreation therapy or therapeutic recreation enables any individual to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. It provides support, guidance and advocacy for any individual with physical, mental, social, behavioral or emotional limitations. Our recreation programs are individually designed based on the strengths, interests, needs and abilities of our clients. Our skill in recreation therapy is in the ability to engage through sometimes challenging times, transition into programs that are a good fit or help integrate to ensure inclusion for all. While standard therapies tend to treat illness, recreation therapy can aid to develop and maintain great well being and quality of life.

Our Just for Kids program involves the design and implementation of therapeutic recreation programs that can contribute greatly to a child’s growth and help with a variety of social, motor, physical and cognitive skills. Our team will identify the specific goals and objectives specifically beneficial to the child’s needs and create a program that will encourage positive participation at home, school and in the community.
