Benefit Dinner for Cillian and a Cure for Mitochondrial Disease

21 Jan 2011 - 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James, Hamilton, Ontario

Friends and family hosted a spaghetti dinner for little Cillian Barrows who was recently diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease. It was just diagnosed as Leigh’s Disease, a terminal form of mitochondrial disease, he is only 16 months old. They had this benefit dinner to help find a cure for Cillian’s mitochondrial disease, and raise awareness for this extremely rare and terrifying disease. Eat for a cure!

The money raised, over $5000, will be going to support MitoCanada and Mitochondrial Disease research conducted by Dr. Tarnopolsky and the Neuromuscular and Neurometabolic Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital.

There was a great silent auction, band and a worship set, and games such as a 50/50 draw, a card game and other some other fun activities. Also there were Mitochondrial disease ribbons for sale as well as some other items such as necklaces. There will be a presentation with more info on Mitochondrial Disease and the organizations receiving the proceeds.

For more details or to contact the organizers, Tabitha and Aaron McCartney, and Cillian’s mother Briar Leigh-May Spink, please refer to the event posting on Facebook at: Benefit Dinner for Cillian and a Cure for Mitochondrial Disease
