Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week is the third week of September every year.
To commemorate this event in Burlington, Ontario, a group of families affected by mitochondrial disease rallied together with the City of Burlington to officially declare an annual Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week in the city.
The first Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week in Canada was launched in Burlington, Ontario, in September 2009, with the planting of a tree dedicated to Dedicated to the memory of those who live with, or have lost their lives to Mitochondrial Disease. http://www.insidehalton.com/news/article/442694–mayor-proclaims-sept-20-26-mitochondrial-disease-awareness-week
An official proclamation was made by the City of Burlington for this annual event, and the framed proclamation was presented to Dr. Tarnopolsky’s Neuromuscular and Neurometabolic Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital, where it is now proudly on display.
